Student Parent Services

East Los Angeles College is here to support students with dependent children to achieve academic success and complete their degree program. We provide a wide range of state, on-campus, and off-campus student parent services and resources.

    • Students may be eligible for up to $3,417 for tax year 2022 as a working family or individual earning up to $30,000 per year.
    • Helps families across the state by providing nutrition education, breastfeeding support, healthy foods, and referrals to health care and other community services.
    • Provides a credit up $1,083 per tax return for Californians who qualify for CalEITC and have a child under 6 years old.

  • California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs)
    • Provides cash aid and support to eligible students who live with a child or children.
  • Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE)
    • Brings additional benefits to Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) students who are parenting, receiving CalWORKs/TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) benefits, and are working towards getting a degree, transferring to a four-year university, or getting their credentials.
  • Child Development Center
    • Offers services for student-parents with children 12 months-4 years of age while attending аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û.
  • Student Housing
    • Assists students by finding resources in the community for unhoused students who are experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity.
  • Foster & Kinship Care
    • Supports former or current foster youth between ages 17-30 who want to go to college and pursue academic, career, and personal goals.
  • NextUp Foster Youth Program
    • Supports current and former foster youth who want to attend college.

    • Helps low-income households increase their food-buying power to meet their household’s nutritional needs.
    • Supports parenting students who are changing their own lives, two generations at a time.
    • Provides assistance to low-income families and individuals.
    • Build families’ well-being, financial strength, and social connections to lift two generations at once.
    • Provides assistance to parents for preventive and support services.
    • Provides legal services in housing, public benefits, people with disabilities, and family services.
    • The standard guidebook of public social services for people working in the field, people in need of help, and those just helping their neighbors.
    • Federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex--including pregnancy and parental status--in educational programs and activities.
    • Fights in courts, cities, counties, and in the Capitol to secure housing, health care, and a strong safety net for Californians with low incomes.

Basic Needs Center Mission Statement

 The Basic Needs Center provides centralized support services for students facing basic needs insecurities. By actively building links and collaborating with campus and community partners, we advocate for student-centered solutions that are responsive to an individual’s overall well-being, so students are empowered to successfully matriculate through East Los Angeles College and beyond.

Priority Registration

  • Student Parents and/or CalWORKs, DSPS, EOPS, Foster Youth, Active Duty/Veteran participants receive Tier 1 Priority Registration all across the аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û campuses.

Food Support: Food Pantries Monterey Park Campus

Every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month

  • Our program serves all CalWORKs students attending аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û. We offer a variety of services designed to support your educational, career and personal goals, including:

    • Priority registration
    • Orientation
    • Case management and coordination with GAIN services
    • Assistance obtaining GAIN-paid books and supplies, tools, uniforms, and fees
    • Academic counseling
    • Work-study opportunities
    • Activities to help meet the GAIN weekly participation requirement
    • Referrals to community agencies for legal, personal counseling, domestic violence and social services
    • Advocacy for County, child care, and college-related concerns
    • Document processing including monthly attendance, progress reports and GNs

 

To become a аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û CalWORKs student:

  • You must be currently receiving county cash aid for yourself and your children.
  • Be currently enrolled in classes at аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û.
